Student exhibitions of art and design work are an important aspect of department programming and demonstrate a broad awareness of themes, strategies and processes of contemporary practice. -- Master of Fine Arts student critique. The graduate program educates and prepares qualified, promising students for professional careers as artists and designers. -- 3D Foundations, Riley Hall. We are a multidisciplinary department that offers degrees in three main academic areas. All our courses of study allow you to develop visual literacy and acquire the analytical and research skills required to conceptualize, fabricate, and evaluate works of art and design. -- Design Studios at West Lake Hall. Design endeavors to implement meaning and utility by identifying and solving important problems of human, social, environmental & cultural needs. -- Minor in Studio Arts. Students who have developed the cognitive flexibility to understand, manage and respond to complexity, ambiguity and change in effective, novel ways consistently have a competitive edge. The Studio Minor in AAHD cultivates abilities that are important in our rapidly changing global economy, where employers increasingly seek individuals who are able to move beyond routine approaches, and instead think creatively to find solutions to complex problems. -- Art History Art history at Notre Dame offers an extremely wide array of courses every semester. Our offerings typically include classes in each of the following areas: Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance & Baroque, and Modern & Contemporary art history. -- Art History Program Art History shows you the world. Whether it is an ancient temple in Corinth, Greece, or a desert landscape reinterpreted by Georgia O’Keeffe, the subtle hatching of an Old Master drawing or the brilliant stained glass of a Gothic cathedral, art history explores past and present cultures in light of contemporary intellectual, social, and artistic issues.
